About Me
Hi, I’m Lucy — the face behind Love From Lucy Pet Portraits!
My journey started during the Covid pandemic in 2020, one of the hardest years for so many, not just me. Like many people, I lost my job, and heartbreakingly, I also lost my family dog, Oscar, a miniature Schnauzer who meant the world to me. Losing him left a huge hole in my heart, and left me feeling a little lost.
Creativity has always been a comfort to me, so I turned to different crafts to keep busy and to heal. I taught myself how to crochet and loved making thoughtful little gifts for family and friends. It became a bright spot in a very dark time.
Then, in January 2021, after months and months of searching and contacting rescue centres and breeders, I found out a litter of 6 miniature Schnauzer puppies had been born, all girls, and one of them could be ours. Twelve long weeks later, little Nellie came home with me (and her sister Winnie went to live with my parents!). My heart felt full again. Two sweet little souls to love again.
With lockdowns still in place, I set up an Instagram page for Nellie and found myself connecting with the most wonderful community of pet lovers. At the time I was still crocheting, but I felt my love for it slowly fading.
In 2022, I picked up something I’d always loved but never believed I was very good at: drawing. I started out on my iPad using Sketchbook, doodling pet portraits for friends I’d met through Instagram. Looking back, my early drawings make me cringe a little — but the pet-loving corner of Instagram was such a kind and encouraging place. People supported me and gently nudged me towards selling my pet doodles. And that’s when Love From Lucy Pet Portraits was born.
I upgraded my kit, downloaded Procreate, and off I went! Now, I spend my days creating fun, cute, and meaningful pet portraits. I love hearing your ideas — from the sweet and sentimental to the silly and playful — and bringing them to life. While most of my work has been of dogs, I’ve also had the joy of drawing cats, rabbits, chinchillas, hamsters, donkeys, and more. I’d love the chance to draw every animal under the sun!
My portraits have been used for everything from Instagram profile pictures and social media posts to framed artwork, gifts, and memorial pieces and even business logos! Whatever the purpose, I put so much love, care, and attention into every single piece, because I know how much your pets mean to you.
If you’d like to see more of my work, you can find me over on Instagram @love.from.lucy.xx where I share my latest portraits and behind-the-scenes peeks.
Thank you for being here, it means the world to me, and I can’t wait to create something special for you and your pets.
With love,
Lucy ♡
